What determines the quality of a slate roof?
Material quality
A good roof slate must have a solid microstructure in combination with a ringing sound when tapped. There should be no oxidation problems. CE conformity in combination with test results according to the A1, T1 and S1 coding is required.
Processing quality
The production of slate requires experienced and well-trained workers, both for working the slate mines and processing the finished product. Each mine and each quality class has its own exacting specifications.
Laying quality
Good tiling practice must be adhered to if the slate roof is to look good and have a long service life. Among other things, this also includes the visual and acoustic testing of the materials before tiling. It is equally important to choose the correct means of fixing the tiles, in combination with a suitable substructure for the area to be tiled.
A century of slate mining - benefits for the consumer
Theis-Böger's years of experience facilitate the correct choice of materials from different mining sites all over the world. Constant supervision of the mining activities by our own inspectors is a prerequisite.
Theis-Böger has always invested in the initial and on-going training of its staff, ensuring that only products of excellent quality are marketed.
Theis-Böger maintains a close partnership with the roofing industry. This allows us to recommend experienced companies specialising in slate tiling all over Europe. And of course we also offer on-site consulting with the owner/planner. This includes the preparation of a non-binding professional tender.
With the extension of its property-related legal warranty period to 5 years, Theis-Böger can offer both the tiler and ultimately the owner as well comprehensive cover. If it should turn out that the functionality of the slate tiles has been adversely affected by a hidden material fault (which usually becomes apparent during the first few years), all costs for removing the tiles, retiling and any consequential damages are borne by us.
The object-related long-term warranty for up to 30 years is offered by Theis-Böger in respect of the colourfastness and weathering resistance of the slate, thus allowing the owner to feel sure that he has chosen the correct product. Please contact us for more detailed information.
